New Bizarre Species Discovered in the Antarctic Ocean
Meet the Death Ball Sponge. Yes. That’s its real name.
Deep beneath the icy swirls of the Antarctic Ocean, researchers stumbled upon a creature so strange it sounds like a villain from a comic book: the death ball sponge. This carnivorous puffball doesn’t just sit pretty…it traps unsuspecting prey in its spiny embrace. And it’s not alone. From glowing worms to gelatinous oddities, over 30 bizarre new species were discovered during just two expeditions.
